Farmers in Ontario, Canada now have access to soil-mapping technology that uses radiation sensors in conjunction with traditional soil sampling. This somewhat new-to-Canada technology is being touted as a next-level method of measuring soil fertility, as well as water retention capability.
The tube holding the SoilOptix® sensor is mounted to the front of the truck and passes over the field, gathering information about what lies below. Paul Raymer, left, and Zach Harmer say their system for collecting soil data can provide producers with a continuous picture of their soils, rather than a series of snapshots.
